Brainspotting Therapy
Where you look affects how you feel.
-David Grande, PhD
Brainspotting is a powerful, neuroscience-based therapy that helps you access and heal the deeper roots of trauma and emotional overwhelm. If you sense there is more beneath the surface but are not sure how to reach it, Brainspotting offers a direct yet gentle path inward.
By locating and processing the brain-body “spots” where unprocessed expereinces are stored, Brainspotting helps release emotional stress, resolve traumatic memories, and restore balance to the nervous system. It is one of the few approaches designed to addres the underlying causes - not just the symptoms - of psychological pain.
What does Brainspotting do?
Brainspotting helps identify and release the emotional stress and unresolved trauma stored in the brain. With the guidance of a trained therapist, you locate the “spots” connected to painful experiences and process them in a way that bring relief and nervous -system balance. Because it targets the underlying roots of distress - not just the symptoms - Brainspotting can be highly effective for PTSD, anxiety, depression, addictions, and other trauma-related challenges. If your healing feels stalled or traditional methods have not brought the relief you need, Brainspotting offers a powerful path forward.
How does Brainspotting work?
Research shows that trauma can become “stored” in the body, influencing brain function, memory, emotions, and physical health. Brainspotting works by accessing the autonomic and limbic systems through a Brainspot - an eye position linked to unprocessed experiences. By bypassing the thinking mind and engaging the deeper subcortical regions, Brainspotting helps the body release what has been held beneath conscious awareness.
What can I expect during a Brainspotting session?
During a Brainspotting session, your therapist guides your eye position to help you focus on the sources of emotional distress. Using a pointer or guiding your gaze in advanced practice, they slowly move your gaze through your visual field to locate “brainspots”- eye positions connected to painful memories or sensations. As the processing unfolds, your therapist supports you throughout and helps you return to a grounded, regulated state at the end of the session.
